The Glenlivet Whisky Tasting

I took my dad along to The Glenlivet B.Y.D (bring your dad) whisky tasting at Boisdale of Belgravia.

Last week The Glenlivet organised a bring your dad whisky tasting to celebrate fathers, heroes, friends and mentors this Father’s Day (19 June 2016, don’t worry you’ve got time!).

We were invited to an exclusive interactive tasting of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve, a smooth single malt whisky, in honour of The Glenlivet’s founding father George Smith.

Just minutes from Victoria station, we spent the evening in Auld restaurant at Boisdale. My dad is a huge single malt whisky fan so this was his dream event to join me on (and maybe the last after his awful dad jokes ;))

Even though we were both actually flying to Stockholm at 6am the following morning (meaning I had to be up at 2.30am!) we didn’t let this stop us from trying the whiskys on offer!

Throughout the interactive tasting we learnt a great deal about The Glenlivet which was really interesting.

The Glenlivet has been crafted in the remote Livet Valley since 1824. Founder George Smith set up a distillery and his whisky was demanded by King George IV and enjoyed by aristocracy north and south of the border, who’d heard of an illicit dram so smooth they had to taste it themselves! George Smith’s whisky became known as the smoothest, imitated far and wide and was even recognised in the writings of Charles Dickens!

Throughout the night we were able to try four whiskys plus a few cocktails.

We tried some The Glenlivet whiskys which were up to 63%. Although these were very fiery, they were actually really delicious and I’ve found I have a new love for whisky! Each had such a different taste but with delicious hints of caramel and toffee.

The whiskys were all very smooth and creamy with a fruity taste which has over 200 years of whisky making experience put into it!

You can try making a Glenlivet whisky cocktail yourself with the recipe below:

The Packhorse Bridge 40ml Founder’s Reserve 20ml Simple syrup Top up with ginger beer & garnish with fresh mint sprigs

After all of that whisky there seemed to be a bit of a dad bromance going on and a few selfies were taken…

Thank you The Glenlivet and team for hosting me and my crazy dad for the evening.

Using the hashtag #cheersdad, @TheGlenlivet are asking people to share tributes to their heroes in photos and words.

These tributes will be transformed into personalised Father’s Day videos courtesy of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve. A live installation element that brings these stories to life will be unveiled on 17 June in a secret location in London!

The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve is priced at £34.15 per 70cl bottle and is available in most supermarkets across the UK. For Tesco customers, exclusive limited edition packs with free stylish whisky stones are available to purchase, and for shoppers in selected Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons stores, a free, limited edition keep-sake tin is available when buying a bottle of The Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve.
