Revolution Cocktails & Kitchen Putney Review

Five years ago I used to visit Vodka Revolution Bar (as it was then called) in Soho to try their vodka sticks (there’s over 30 flavours). Since then that bar has closed and Revs has had a bit of revamp, it is now a popular dining venue due to its great food offerings as well as being known for its cocktails and vodkas.

So I decided to visit the newly opened Revolution Cocktails and Kitchen in Putney on the corner of Upper Richmond Road and Putney High Street. It is housed in a former grand Victorian hotel (and most recently, a Wetherspoons!), spread across two levels with a main bar on the ground floor, serving its signature cocktails and extensive range of vodkas. Upstairs there’s another bar and a great roof terrace – unfortunately I visited when it was snowing so it was decided to stay snug indoors!  The decor is cosy with plush yellow leather banquette seating and a roaring fire.

Revolution offers a selection of  handcrafted flavoured vodka. The range, all made using premium triple-distilled vodka, comes in a fascinating array of flavours, from Rocky Road and Blackjack to Candy Floss and Chilli.

We visited at 6.30pm on a Monday, just in time for 2-for-1 cocktails (available Monday – Friday between 5-7pm). I went for the Blank Canvas cocktail which is a mix of Ketel One vodka, lemon juice, sugar syrup, soda and my choice of Revolution Handcrafted Flavour – I went for bubblegum (below).

My guest went for an Icelandic Ice Tea (above), a blend of Reyka vodka, Olmeca tequila, peach handcrafted flavour, blue curaçao, lemon juice and Ting grapefruit soda.

To start we shared the Mezze Board (£11) which came served with Sticky chicken skewers, harissa houmous, tortilla chips, guacamole, calamari, charred tortilla and olives. Everything was really delicious and the board featured a great variety of food so it was nice to have a few tasters. I felt as though the board could be slightly bigger however for £11 it is reasonably priced.

As well as the sharer, the three of us also shared a portion of the Cheesy bacon fries (£3.95) with cheese and Roquito pepper sauce, topped with bacon bits. These were absolutely incredible, so tasty, so cheesy and so full of flavour – the star of the show in my opinion.

Our host was extremely friendly and chatty and so helpful when it came to suggesting dishes. Her suggestion of the Mezze board and cheesy bacon fries went down a treat!

My second guest enjoyed the fried chicken wrap which was generously filled with buttermilk fried chicken strips with smokinnaise and baby gem lettuce, served with coleslaw and fries (£7.50).

I opted for the Hey Pesto! pizza (£10.50) which was smothered with a load of delicious toppings including pulled chicken, pesto, feta, mozzarella, roasted peppers, cherry tomatoes and basil. I’m more of a pepperoni pizza than a chicken pizza type of girl but I was totally sold by the feta and pesto. Despite my food envy, I had made a good choice and the toppings all complemented each other so well. Unfortunately I was defeated and couldn’t finish it all though!

They do say you have a second stomach for dessert, so of course I had to order the Colombian chocolate brownie which came served with vanilla ice cream (£4.50). This dessert was so chocolately and rich, even this chocoholic couldn’t handle it all!

My guests went for the Baked New York cheesecake (£4.50) which came served with crème fraîche and a strawberry. The crème fraîche was perfect and balanced out the sweetness of the cheesecake.

I would definitely return to Revolution whether that be for cocktails, to try a few of their flavoured vodka shots or for food. We left very feeling happy and satisfied.

I’m always on the look out for a bargain and Revolution has a lot of great offers so it’s easy to indulge on a budget. From Monday – Friday, two courses will set you back only £11.95 or you can upgrade to three courses for an additional £3.

They serve brunch every weekend from 11am until 4pm, and you can add two hours of bottomless Mimosas, Bloody Marys or Prosecco for just £25 including a brunch dish.

There’s also Tipsy Teas For a quintessentially British experience. Book in advance and get sandwiches and sweet treats plus any cocktail of your choice for just £20 per person.
