My Beauty Favourites
Updated: Dec 28, 2019
In this post I’ve combined my favourite products, this may even be useful for those looking for Christmas gifts!
First up are these Paul Mitchell products. I’ve worked with Paul Mitchell a lot throughout 2016 and receive products every 2 months to try out. I’m a big fan of Paul Mitchell as their products are never tested on animals and they are also paraben-free, gluten-free, vegan and colour safe.
I absolutely adore the Moisture range but sadly I loved it so much that I used up most of those products within weeks as I used them every day (the shampoo and conditioner made my hair so sleek and soft, it dried so straight and my hair got a lot less oily). However I’m still using the Moisture Mist. This is perfect for adding moisture back into my hair when it’s dry after constant dying, hair drying and straightening. It can also be used on the skin so it’s great for adding some moisture into my skin as it can often get too dry when I use products to prevent oily skin.
When my roots need doing my hair can get limp. The Extra-Body Root Lifter is the perfect product for sorting out this issue, as it lifts my hair at the roots giving it a well deserved volume boost plus it smells absolutely incredible! As part of the Extra-Body range I also own the Extra-Body Sculpting Foam, which also smells incredible This product gives extra volume to the hair without making it heavy and full of product. It’s the perfect hair prep product for volumised shiny hair.
My hair has a natural wave to it but I usually straighten it as it can dry frizzy and dry. But often I’m way too tired and lazy before work to style my hair so I just rub on some Ultimate Wave cream-gel to damp hair to really enhance the natural waves. It stops my hair from getting frizzy and instead adds beachy style waves. I found that this product works so much better than any ‘beach hair’ spray on products.
Another of my favourite products is the Full-Circle Leave in Treatment, also from the Curl collection. This is a lightweight cream which hydrates the hair and controls frizz.
I received these products along with the hair brush in Paul Mitchell’s Yacht Collection.
I’ve been using Urban Decay products for around 10 years now and it’s a brand I recommend to everyone and anyone. You are probably aware that I am absolutely obsessed with lipsticks. So I was super excited to try out Urban Decay‘s Vice Lipsticks!
There’s 100 shades so it was so difficult to pick a few shades to try. Purple shades are my go-to lipstick as I adore the bright unusual tones and purple has also been my favourite colour. So I had to try the Cream lipstick in Twitch and coincidentally when it arrived it matched my nail varnish.
I always go for matte lipsticks as I find creamy lipsticks come off easily and smudge plus I’m not keen on the glossy lipstick look. But I adored the Twitch shade so I took the plunge and stepped out of my comfort zone and I’m so pleased I did. Twitch is now my favourite lipstick I own (that is saying a lot as I own about 140 lipsticks!).
It applies so smoothly and the lipstick is so pigmented you only need one coat. It’s very vibrant too without being too over the top. It does transfer when drinking and eating as it’s very creamy but what I like about the lipstick is that I don’t look stupid when half of it has rubbed off and I’m only wearing half of it. It’s hardly noticable and so easy to top up, which sometimes is difficult with drying matte shades. This is the lipstick I use when I’m going to have a long day and I need a lipstick I can rely on throughout the day. As I know it won’t leave my lips looking caked in lipstick and dry after hours of wear.
As I am a huge matte lipstick fan I also plumped for the Mega matte lipsticks in Crash and 714.
714 is a gorgeous bright red shade and Crash is a vibrant orange. Both lipsticks are very pigmented and you only need to apply once as a little bit product goes a long way plus the colours are so bright.
Both lipsticks are very matte but just perfectly matte. The lipsticks aren’t heavy products which dry out your lips at all. They glide on so smoothly and last for hours and still look as fresh as they did hours ago when you first applied it. The wear is so comfortable too, it hardly feels like you are wearing lipstick.
I often find matte lipsticks are way too heavy on my lips, they dry your lips out and the product often cracks and flakes after hours of wear or eating and drinking. These mega matte lipsticks didn’t do this at all. They are very long wearing and the perfect reliable lipstick to wear all day. I hardly had to top it up, it didn’t budge even after eating.
The metallic lipstick casing is divine, it’s adds a touch of glam to the product along with the engraved logo on the lipstick. It looks like such a luxurious product but it’s priced at a reasonable and average lipstick price of £15.
I already own the Naked 3 palette and as I am keen to improve my eye makeup skins I went for the Naked 2 Basics palette. The palette features 1 shimmery satin-finish shade which is useful as a base and for highlighting and enhancing an eye make up look or the brow bone – as well as 5 matte shades. It’s the perfect palette for those with paler skin and for those who want to create subtle natural everyday looks. The shades are smooth and easy to blend, I found that they lasted all day without creasing especially with my eyeshadow primer underneath – Urban Decay primer in sin.
Each shade looks great alone or can be blended to create a more dramatic look. You can see my basic subtle look here (I’m wearing skimp as a base and have blended cover and primal).
I’m a huge lover of NYX Cosmetics as the products are amazing quality and so well priced. I’m slowly replacing a lot of my products with NYX products as they are a fraction of the price and a fantastic dupe. NYX is a brand I recommend to everyone as their products have such a high quality finish and are so affordable.
My current favourite NYX products include Lip Lingerie in Embellishment or Ruffle Trim as pictured, Photo-loving Primer, Lip cream in London or Havana as pictured and my all-time favourite, liquid suede lip cream. The liquid suede lip creams totally complete a make up look. They apply so easily and neatly and last for hours without smudging. They dry slightly matte without being too matte and drying on the lips. I also love that it really enhances the look of my lips and makes them look a lot more full without the need for lip liner (or fillers haha!) It’s a lip cream which can totally change your confidence and that’s what make up is all about.
Current favourites that you’ll also find in my make up bag include the New CID Cosmetics i-crayon cheek and lip tint – this product is perfect to keep in my bag for make up touches at work. I also love Lipcote to keep my lipstick in place and Lipcote’s latest product Browcote to make sure my brows don’t go astray!
