Ibis Blackfriars Review

Updated: Dec 28, 2019

I’m still dreaming about that amazing breakfast…

If you are looking for a good value hotel in a central location then Ibis Blackfriars is perfect.

Although I don’t live too far from London, the journey back can be a hassle and it can be annoying planning your evening around train times. So I love getting a hotel every now and then but staying in London can be expensive.

We recently stayed at Ibis Blackfriars which is located less than a minute walk from Southwark underground station and just a few minutes from Blackfriars and Waterloo/Waterloo East stations. Room rates start from just £89 which is amazing considering its location.

Check in was so quick and easy at Ibis Blackfriars and we were also told you can check in online beforehand. This hotel definitely pushes the boundaries of a budget hotel. The interior decor is very vibrant and has a modernistic and sophisticated design, it looks so chic. You wouldn’t think you were staying in a budget hotel.

Pyjamas – c/o Blue Marmalade London

We had a lovely double room with a great city view. We were treated to complimentary bottled water, cereal bars, tea and coffee which made a great quick snack before we headed out that evening.

There is free wifi throughout the hotel and the rooms come with shower gel and hairdryers which can save a bit of room when packing for your stay. I loved that there was a plug directly below the mirror. Sometimes I find in hotels that the plug is no where near the mirror which is such a pain for getting ready!

The room was immaculate and had everything we needed including free wifi, a LCD flat screen TV and a desk. Our room featured their new Sweet Bed by ibis which was so soft and cosy. We had a very relaxing and quiet night sleep – which is sometimes hard to find in London!

The best bit about Ibis Blackfriars is the incredible breakfast selection. Seriously it’s been a few weeks since we stayed and I still can’t stop thinking about it. We had chorizo, guacamole, apricot wrapped in bacon, all the necessities to create a full English and there was even everything to make your own Eggs Benedict (my favourite!). There were yoghurts, glass pots full of porridge or quinoa and fruit and sauces as topping and there was a delicious selection of cakes and pastries and all kind of juices including Cloudy Apple and Grapefruit. The continental breakfast is served from 4am until 10am, with hot breakfast from 6.30am. This is great for those who may have to get up early for a flight for example.

Basically if there was something you wanted in particular for breakfast, it was there. I don’t think I’ll ever stay anywhere with a better breakfast selection.

If you are looking to dine nearby, two of my favourite restaurants are literally a few steps away! Try Jamboree (review here) or Baltic (review here)

Ibis Blackfriars has 297 rooms. Check in is at 2pm and check out is at 12pm.
