Foodiez TV – Portobello Ristorante Pizzeria

Our visit to Portobello Ristorante & Pizzeria

You may have seen that we recently worked with Foodiez TV. This time we were on the search for the best Italian and our favourite had to be Portobello Ristorante & Pizzeria.

Italian is probably my favourite cuisine and this Friday we are heading to Rome to spend a few days indulging in pizza, pasta, gelato, prosciutto, amaretto, prosecco and all things Italian.

This is probably a bold claim to make but Portobello Ristorante & Pizzeria may be the best Italian meal I have ever had. Even better than when I visited Italy previously.

The restaurant is a warm and friendly local establishment. We arrived really early for dinner before 6pm and we were the first to arrive. But by 6.30pm on a Monday evening the restaurant was full of locals and it was absolutely buzzing. I don’t think I have ever been to a restaurant so busy on a Monday, so that’s obviously a good sign.

To start we had a wonderful antipasti dish of 20 months cured Parma Ham with creamy burrata cheese with shavings of black truffle (£17.50). My stomach is literally rumbling as I write this thinking back to it. The shavings of truffle added a delicious burst of flavour to the dish.

For the main course I continued with the black truffle theme and went for Paccheri Al Ragu Di Vitello – fresh paccheri pasta with minced veal, Italian herbs and white wine sauce with black truffle shavings.

The best pasta dish I have ever had. It was so creamy and buttery, it literally melted in my mouth. It’s the sort of dish you’ll dream about eating weeks, possibly months, afterwards.

Karl devoured the Mascalzone (£14.95). The ultimate calzone with with half calzone with mozzarella, ricotta, napoli salami, roast ham and parmesan and the other half filled with mozzarella, tomato sauce and Spianata Calabrian spicy salami.

We had been totally spoiled and had really over indulged but it wasn’t the end yet. For dessert we shared a selection of desserts including Tiramisu and the most gorgeous tasting chocolate dessert I have ever had. It was so fluffy, so smooth and so chocolately (is that a word?). This chocoholic was in absolute heaven.

This gem is located on Ladbroke Road, a stone’s throw from Notting Hill Gate station.
