Flat Iron Covent Garden Review

Not suitable for vegetarians…

Last Friday we visited the newly opened Flat Iron restaurant in Covent Garden. I’d heard good things so I was really excited! It’s conveniently located in the heart of Covent Garden so it’s really easy to find.

When we arrived the restaurant was buzzing, we were taken straight to our table but it can get very busy so it’s best to arrive early!

The menu is straight to the point. Pick a drink – cider, beer, wine, cocktails or soft drinks and a main course. There is one option the Flat Iron steak and then a small selection of sides. It’s easy and simple and works really well. Flat Iron know what they are good (and yes they are really good at it) and stick to it. There is also a specials menu which when we went was Burger (£10), Rump (£15) or 700g Ribeye (£30) which is recommended as a sharing course, however the specials menu changes regularly.

Flat Iron is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for a quick dinner. I’m always dashing around London with limited time so Flat Iron is perfect for me. It’s also a great place to go for a pre-theatre meal or if you are need of a quick meal and are planning on making the most of the nearby happy hours (e.g. my favourites nearby are Be at One and Dirty Martini).

Minutes after ordering our courses arrived (the benefit of having a simple menu!) which was perfect as were starving! I went for the simple Flat Iron steak (pictured above) which is priced at just £10 and comes with a side salad. I also ordered beef dripping chips (£3.50) as a side. The creamed spinach was also a very tempting option (I’ll just have to come back!)

This is possibly the best value steak you are going to get in London! I heard some diners sitting by us saying they weren’t expecting much for £10 but they were pleasantly surprised, as was I. It’s probably the best steak I have ever had and so so affordable and the portion is huge.

Flat Iron recommend you have your steak medium rare, I normally go for medium to well done so I was unsure how it would be but it was amazing. I’m definitely a medium rare steak fan from now on.

Karl went for the Rump (above) from the specials menu which I can only assume was amazing judging by the two minutes he devoured it in.

There isn’t a dessert menu but I prefer Flat Iron‘s option.

At the end of your meal you are given a token which you can take to the ice cream stand at the front of the restaurant for complimentary ice cream.

Every diner is treated to salted caramel ice cream which is topped with chocolate flakes.

You know 14 March is coming up and if you are wondering where to go…
