Ceru Cannon Street Review
Your chance to escape to the eastern Mediterranean for the night.
We settled down with a glass of Turkish white wine for me and Passionista cocktail for Karl (see menu here). The restaurant is brightly coloured with a holiday vibe. Summer may be over but the bright, cheery and summer atmosphere hasn’t left Ceru.
The large photograph by the tables transports you away for the night, you won’t feel like you are in London! Sit back and relax with a cocktail or try their signature homemade lemonade including flavours such as Blackberry and mint or Basil and honey.
As we had been to Ceru before we had a few old favourites we wanted to order such as the trio of dips and lamb shoulder (heavenly). To accompany our drinks and chat with the lovely Patricia from Ceru we ordered a Bread basket (£1) and the Three in One dips (£5) which includes: Pancar, Fadi and Houmous. Pancar (roast beetroot, yoghurt, garlic and pistachio) is a huge favourite amongst diners at Ceru but personally my fave is the Fadi (courgette puree with tahini, roast garlic, yoghurt and lemon). The bread arrived soft and still warm from the oven, it was beautiful.
As it began to get darker outside the lights dimmed in Ceru, we felt cosy and comfortable surrounded by the glowing candles. The ambiance is great, it’s relaxing and romantic and the service is flawless.
Soon it was time for the highlight of the night, Ceru’s signature Slow roast lamb shoulder with shawarma spices. The lamb is so tender and just melts in your mouth. You cannot visit Ceru without trying it! All of the meat at Ceru is certified Halal and sourced only from British farms and the fish and seafood is wild caught from sustainable sources. To accompany our lamb we went for the Warm salad of crisp roast duck, Halloumi and Tumeric and coriander roast potatoes. As Karl and I are both halloumi fanatics we had to order some and it did not disappoint! The Tumeric and coriander roast potatoes made a nice change for a side dish. Other dishes on the menu which caught my eye and I plan to return to try include Feta cheese fritters (I am a huge feta cheese fan) and Roasted baby aubergines.
I’m usually not a red wine drinker but I opted for glass in replacement of dessert and I think Ceru has converted me with their Turkish red wine. A lot of research has gone into their wine menu. They have a lovely selection of of wines from across the world including the Levant region.
The restaurant is located opposite Cannon Street station so it was perfect for us to get back to Kent.
Ceru is open Monday to Friday for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7am until 10pm. Ceru has amazing breakfast options available. You can view the menu here. £3.50 wraps filled with Fried Eggs and Halloumi or Nutella, Banana and Honey which you can get with my favourite Turkish tea for £1.60. (Ceru, you need to open closer to my work, I would be there every morning!)
