Brunch at Apero (The Ampersand Hotel)

There’s nothing more I love than brunch.

It is the highlight of the weekend because what’s better than breakfast and lunch combined and when alcohol can be consumed before 12pm without being frowned upon.

I recently went for brunch at Apero Restaurant & Bar located within The Ampersand Hotel adjacent to South Kensington tube station.

Apero Restaurant & Bar occupies a 19th century vault below the hotel which you can find through the main hotel entrance or there is a separate entrance on the street.

Apero is stylish with white tiles, dangling lights, turquoise leather bar chairs and exposed brick walls for a rustic but luxury design. Everywhere there is antique glass and crystal adding a charming touch to the med-influenced restaurant and bar. It’s bright and airy as the sunlight streams in – perfect for blog and Instagram photos!

This was my second visit to Apero Restaurant & Bar, I previously visited for their Christmas Pudding masterclass in December.

To start our brunch We went for an Apero Spritz each which immediately took me back to my visit to Venice summer 2012 and I wished I was back there.

We went for the Classic bacon cheeseburger with chips (£16.50) and Rib-eye steak, mixed leaves and chips (£18.50).

I visited with my parents and my dad even claimed that in his 62 years of eating steak, this is the best he had ever had. Of course after that claim I had to try a bit myself and he was right, it was glorious.

I must admit after that taster I was feeling jealous, I had food envy and was slightly disappointed that I didn’t order the steak. However the burger was as delicious as it looks, with crispy smoked bacon and the beef patty smothered in cheddar cheese, it was absolutely divine.

Other delightful dishes from the brunch menu include Burrata, tomato & avocado (£9.50) and Avocado, feta & olives on grilled sour dough with poached eggs & chorizo (£12.50); which can be enjoyed with a Bloody Mary (£9.50) or Aperol Spritz (£8.50). There is also a kids brunch menu is also available from £6.

For dessert we had Chocolate brownie with ice cream (£5) and Lemon curd, earl grey meringue & sorbet (£6.50).

As with every review I always go for the brownie (as though I’m on some mission to find London’s best chocolate brownie) and it did not disappoint. It looked almost too good to eat, but this didn’t stop me.

The presentation of the Lemon curd dish was stunning with a fine dining touch. Although the dish looks minimal it was very filling with a delicious zesty flavour.

The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere where we felt chilled out with no rush to move on. I’d highly recommend a visit for that luxury dining experience at an affordable price.

Brunch is Served Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am until 2.30pm.
