Belgo Restaurant Review
One for the beer fans!
Last week we headed to Belgo Holborn. A Belgium restaurant located on Kingsway which has just reopened following a major refurbishment. Belgo has been here for 20 years but thought it was about time they changed their look (like any 20-year-old feels after leaving their teens!)
Belgo Holborn has a large selection of 52 beers, so this is a beer fans paradise. We entered the bustling restaurant and admired the huge beer selection behind the bar which included flavours such as Strawberry, Cherry and Banana I’m not usually much of a beer drinker but I was excited to try a few new flavours.
Once we were at our table our photo was taken and within minutes our picture was printed onto a beer bottle! (pictured above) As we waited we sipped on a fruity mojito style cocktail made from, of course, beer.
To start we were treated to a wonderful selection of treats including Spicy prawn; Pate; and Croquettes. All which were equally delicious.
Belgo Holborn seats 130 people. It has a beer hall themed restaurant (where we dined) and a drinks area to the left.
With our dishes I tried a coconut beer which was absolutely incredible. I’m more of a cocktail, cider or wine type of girl but I was pleasantly surprised! Belgo has changed my perception of beer.
We then tried some of Belgo‘s famous Moules (Mussels). We shared a bowl of Traditional Moules (garlic, celery an white wine) and Chipotle Moules (smoked chilli and garlic butter).
These bowls are good value at £13.50 and also come with their legendary double cooked frites or house salad. They go down very well with a nice fruit biere too!
If Moules aren’t for you, they also have Half rotisserie chicken served with double cooked frites or salad for £12.50 – another good value meal.
We also sampled a few other items on the menu including the Surf and Turf dish which included asparagus wrapped with beef and lobster. Both dishes were mouthwateringly good, the lobster was tender and coated in a delicious garlic butter which was incredible.
We ended our feast with some traditional Belgian waffles with cherry and chocolate sauce. Priced at £5.50 you can build your own waffles or crepes. Choose the sauce, flavours include White or dark chocolate, Cherry coulis or blueberry compote, and pick an ice cream to top. Exquisite flavours include Salted caramel or Orange sorbet.
You can view Belgo’s menus here.
We shared a bottle of peach beer which oh my, this was the best beer I’ve ever had. It didn’t even taste like beer! It was sweet and syrupy with a gorgeous peachy taste, which even my guest loved and she doesn’t even like peach. I’m returning soon just for this amazing taste again!
As if that wasn’t enough we got to try some delicious shots including Hazelnut, Marzipan, Melon and Lemon.
