Bar + Block Kings Cross Review

I visited Bar + Block in December for the launch party and was totally blown away by the food and cocktails.

So I returned for an indulgent night of cocktails and succulent steak at their flagship restaurant which is located just across from Kings Cross station.

Bar + Block Steakhouse is an all-day bar and restaurant which has an extensive menu including hand-cut steaks, pork belly, beef short-rib, burgers and grilled chicken along with a range of vegetarian options, which we also tried.

We started off the evening with a couple of tubs of their beef dripping flavoured popcorn (which was incredibly moreish!) and a cocktail each – an Aperol Spritz and a Strawberry Mojito. You can see the drinks menu here.

We visited on a Monday evening and the restaurant was filled to the brim and buzzing with atmosphere.

The main menu is extensive so it took us a long time to decide what to order! We settled on the Beef Empanadas (£5.95) and Creamy Mushroom on Toast (£5.50).

The Traditional Argentinean Beef Empanadas were soft and delicate pastries were filled with a very tasty lightly spiced beef with a side serving of tomato salsa.

My personal favourite was the Creamy Mushrooms on Toast – a slice of ciabatta smothered in mixed mushrooms in a creamy shallot sauce with an egg poached to perfection.

All of Bar + Block’s steaks are from British breeds of cattle which are reared across the Pampas in South America. Their steaks are aged for a minimum of 28 days and hand-cut – so you can have you steak a big as you want!

So as Bar + Block specialises in steaks we had to try them! For the main course I plumped for the Beef Brisket from the special menu. This came covered in chimichurri sauce with a side of delicious beef dripping chunky chips, I also had a side of peppercorn sauce for that extra bit of flavour.

This is the first time I’ve tried brisket and it’s definitely an underrated cut. I was so impressed with the flaky texture, it was so soft and tender it just melted away in my mouth. Plus the chimichurri sauce gave the brisket that extra kick.

My guest went for the 8oz Fillet steak which also came with beef dripping chips and a side sauce. The fillet is the most lean and tender of all the steaks.

I went for a blended Strawberry Margarita which was heavenly. I probably sipped this away too quickly, totally obsessed with it’s slush puppy like texture.

It’s difficult to pinpoint a highlight of the night as everything was just SO good! But if you read my restaurant reviews regularly you’ll know that I mainly order chocolate brownie. I’ve tried some damn good brownies all over London and Bar + Block’s chocolate brownie is currently number 1 on my list.

The triple chocolate brownie (£5.95) is served warm with chunks of chocolate throughout the brownie and its covered in a chocolate toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. It was gooey, chunky and so chocolately.

You MUST try this if you visit. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

The Apple & Blackberry Crumble was also a great dessert choice and the perfect winter warmer. Priced at £5.95 it comes served with vanilla ice cream or a pot of custard.

We had such a fantastic night at Bar + Block. Everything was so impressive and I was blown away by everything, even the cocktails. Add a Strawberry Margarita and Chocolate brownie to your order, you’ll be totally impressed to, I promise.
